Don Narcisse

November is Lung Month and Breathe Ambassador Don Narcisse is encouraging you to take a breather.

The well-known former wide receiver for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and a CFL Hall of Famer signed with The Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 1, 1987. That day marked the start of an impressive 13 year career with the green and white. Don became a 4 time CFL all-star, a 5 time divisional all-star and was the Roughriders most popular player in 1994, 1995 and 1998. He entertained fans with not only his spectacular catches but also his well-known joyous touchdown dance.

Throughout his career Don set CFL and professional football records. At the time of his retirement, he was 1st all-time in career receptions, 3rd in career receiving yards and tied for 1st with 8 - 1000+ yard seasons. Don holds the professional football record for most consecutive games with at least one reception in every game (216).

Don was a member of the 1989 Grey Cup Championship team and in 2010 he was inducted into the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame.

He is considered one of the greatest players in Saskatchewan Roughriders’ history and one of the leagues greatest receivers. What many don’t know about Don is that he has had asthma since childhood. In fact, his mother didn’t want him to play sports after being diagnosed out of concern for his health. However, with hard work, proper asthma management, and determination for the sport, Don excelled on the field. His life experience with asthma and an ongoing commitment to community involvement have made him a great spokesperson for The Lung Association.

As a Breathe Ambassador for The Lung Association, Don wants people to know that asthma doesn’t have to slow you down or hold you back. “People often don’t think about their breathing until it is taken away. I know firsthand what it feels like to be out of breath. It’s scary. But I didn’t let fear or asthma get in my way of living out my dreams,” says Narcisse. Through education and medication, Don learned to manage his disease.

“This November take control over your asthma and share a photo of yourself taking a breather (#TakeaBreather) playing or supporting your favorite sport. I hope to see some football fans in green and white!” – Don Narcisse, #80
